Wedding Anniversary Calculator
Use this free wedding anniversary calculator to find out exactly how long you have been married. Enter your wedding date and it shows your completed years of marriage, the total number of days you have been married, the date of your next anniversary, how many days and weeks are left until it, and the milestone name and traditional and modern gifts for that anniversary — silver for 25 years, gold for 50, diamond for 60, and every milestone in between.
Leave the date above blank to use today. Set it to any date to see what the anniversary picture looked like then — handy for checking a past or future milestone.
How the wedding anniversary calculator works
The calculator starts with your wedding date and the date you are counting from, which is today unless you pick another date. First it finds your completed years of marriage: the difference between the two years, minus one if this year's anniversary has not happened yet. A couple married on 15 June 2001 has completed 25 years on 15 June 2026, but on 7 November 2026 they have still completed 25 years — the 26th only arrives on 15 June 2027.
Next it counts the total days you have been married, from the wedding date up to the date you picked. This count is leap-year safe because it counts real calendar days, not 365 times the number of years. Leap days — 29 February in years like 2000, 2004, 2020 and 2024 — are included automatically, so a couple married in 2000 has seven extra days in their total by 2025 compared with a simple 365-day multiplication.
Then it finds your next anniversary: your wedding month and day in the current year, or next year if that date has already passed. If today is your anniversary, the calculator says so instead of counting down. The countdown is shown in days and in weeks, so you can see at a glance whether you have time to plan a party, order a gift, or book a restaurant. The milestone for the next anniversary comes from the traditional and modern gift lists: paper for year 1, wood for year 5, crystal for 15, china for 20, silver for 25, pearl for 30, ruby for 40, sapphire for 45, gold for 50, emerald for 55, diamond for 60, and platinum for 70.
Leap-day weddings get special handling. If you married on 29 February, there is no 29 February in most years, so the calculator places the anniversary on 28 February in non-leap years. That keeps the yearly count correct — you still complete one more year of marriage every year — and it keeps the countdown honest instead of jumping to 1 March.
Anniversary milestones and gifts
Each anniversary year has a traditional gift and, for many years, a modern one as well. The two lists grew up separately — the traditional list is the older one, and the modern list was put together later with gifts that suit how people live now — so they often differ. Year 1 is paper on both lists' spirit, year 2 is cotton traditionally and china on the modern list, year 3 is leather and crystal, and year 4 is fruit and flowers with appliances as the modern choice.
The big ones everyone knows are year 5 (wood, with silverware as the modern gift), year 10 (tin and aluminum, with diamond jewelry as the modern gift), year 15 (crystal, with watches as the modern gift), year 20 (china, with platinum as the modern gift), year 25 (silver on both lists), year 30 (pearl, with diamond as the modern gift), year 35 (coral, with jade as the modern gift), year 40 (ruby on both lists), year 45 (sapphire on both lists), year 50 (gold on both lists), year 55 (emerald on both lists), year 60 (diamond on both lists), and year 70 (platinum). The calculator shows the traditional and modern gift for your next anniversary, so you can pick the one that fits your budget and your partner's taste.

Worked example
A couple married on 14 February 2000 wants to know where they stand on 14 February 2025, their 25th wedding anniversary day.
Step 1: Completed years — 2025 minus 2000 is 25, and the anniversary falls on the counting date itself, so they have completed 25 years.
Step 2: Total days married — 25 years of real calendar days, including the leap days of 29 February 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 (seven in all): 25 × 365 + 7 = 9,132 days.
Step 3: Next anniversary — today is the anniversary, so the next one is 14 February 2026, which is 365 days away.
Step 4: Milestone — the 26th anniversary has no named milestone of its own, so the calculator names the next big one on the way: the 30th, pearl. The anniversary they are celebrating today is the silver anniversary, with silver as both the traditional and the modern gift.
Enter 14 February 2000 as the wedding date and 14 February 2025 as the "as of" date and the tool gives exactly these numbers: 25 years married, 9,132 days married, next anniversary 14 February 2026 in 365 days.
FAQ
How do I calculate how many years I have been married?
Count the full years from your wedding date to today. If you married on 14 February 2000, you complete 25 years on 14 February 2025. If today is before the anniversary in the current year, subtract one from the difference between the years. This calculator does that for you and also shows the total days you have been married.
What is the traditional gift for a 25th wedding anniversary?
Silver is the traditional gift for a 25th wedding anniversary, which is why it is called the silver anniversary. The modern gift list also says silver. Common silver gifts are jewelry, a photo frame, a serving set, or a piece of engraved silverware with the couple's names and wedding date.
What anniversary is 50 years of marriage?
Fifty years of marriage is the golden anniversary, and gold is both the traditional and the modern gift. It is the most widely celebrated milestone after the 25th, and couples often mark it with a family party, gold jewelry, or a renewed vow ceremony.
What happens if we married on 29 February, a leap day?
Couples married on 29 February celebrate in non-leap years on either 28 February or 1 March, depending on local law and personal preference. This calculator uses 28 February in non-leap years, so the anniversary never slips into March and the countdown stays accurate.
How many days until my next wedding anniversary?
Enter your wedding date and the calculator shows the exact date of your next anniversary and the number of days until it, plus the same countdown in weeks. If today is your anniversary, it says so and shows zero days until the celebration.
