How it works

Days and weeks are the simplest time conversion there is, because a week is defined as exactly 7 days — no exceptions, no leap weeks, no rounding in the definition. To convert days to weeks, divide the number of days by 7. To convert weeks back to days, multiply by 7. So 30 days is 30 ÷ 7 = 4.2857 weeks, and 4.2857 weeks × 7 = 30 days again. The decimal part is just the leftover days written as a fraction of a week: 0.2857 of a week is 2 days, so 30 days is 4 full weeks and 2 days.

Months and years need more care, because they are not fixed lengths. Real months run from 28 to 31 days, and real years are 365 days, or 366 in a leap year. This converter uses the standard averages so that its answers stay consistent: one average month is 30.4375 days, which is 365.25 ÷ 12, and one average year is 365.25 days, which allows for a leap day every four years. Those are the same averages used by calendars, payroll systems, and interest calculations, and the converter states them plainly in the diagram above so you can judge whether they fit your purpose.

weeks = days ÷ 7  |  months = days ÷ 30.4375  |  years = days ÷ 365.25  |  hours = days × 24

Hours and minutes are exact: one day is 24 hours, and one hour is 60 minutes, so one day is 1,440 minutes. That makes 30 days equal to 720 hours and 43,200 minutes. When you are counting down to a holiday, a deadline, or a delivery, the weeks figure is usually the most useful — "four and a bit weeks" is easier to picture than "30 days" — while the hours figure matters when you are planning shifts, study time, or a countdown timer. The full table under the result shows every unit at once, so you can pick whichever one fits the conversation.

One thing to watch is the difference between a calendar year and an average year. A single ordinary year has 365 days, which is 52.1429 weeks — 52 full weeks and 1 day left over. An average year of 365.25 days is 52.1786 weeks. The converter uses 365.25 days for its year, because that is the honest long-run average once leap years are included. If you are converting one specific year, say from 1 January to 31 December, use 365 days (or 366 in a leap year) and the weeks figure from the table: 52.1429 for an ordinary year. For anything spanning several years — a loan term, a child's age, a project plan — the average is the better choice.

Worked example

A project deadline is 30 days away. How many weeks is that, and how many months and hours?

Step 1: Write down the time — 30 days.
Step 2: Divide by 7 for weeks: 30 ÷ 7 = 4.2857.
Step 3: Divide by 30.4375 for average months: 30 ÷ 30.4375 = 0.9856.
Step 4: Multiply by 24 for hours: 30 × 24 = 720 hours.
Step 5: Read the answers — 4.2857 weeks, 0.9856 months, 720 hours.

Enter 30 in the converter with days to weeks selected and it gives exactly the same result: 4.2857 weeks, with the months and hours in the table below. As a second check, 365 days converts to 52.1429 weeks — 52 full weeks plus one day — which is why a year never starts on the same weekday twice in a row.

FAQ

How many weeks is 30 days?

30 days equals 4.2857 weeks. Divide 30 by 7 to get 4.2857, which is 4 full weeks and 2 days left over.

How many days are in a month?

How do I convert weeks back to days?

Multiply weeks by 7. For example, 6 weeks × 7 = 42 days. Use the unit menus on this page to convert either direction.

Why is a year 365.25 days here?

Because of leap years. A year is really about 365.25 days long, which is why a leap day is added every four years. Using 365.25 days makes the converter accurate over spans of several years instead of drifting.
