Remove Line Breaks
This free remove line breaks tool joins broken lines back into flowing text. Paste in text copied from a PDF, an email, or a spreadsheet, choose how the lines should join — with a space, with nothing, or with a comma — and get clean, single-paragraph text in one click. It also removes blank lines, trims extra spaces, and shows the character count before and after, so you can see exactly what changed.
How it works
Line breaks sneak into text in more places than most people expect. Copy a paragraph out of a PDF and every printed line becomes a hard break, so a single sentence arrives in five pieces. Copy an address list out of a spreadsheet and every cell lands on its own line. Paste an email into a form and the quoted lines keep their breaks. The text is all there, but it reads like a telegram — and if you paste it into a document, a slide, or a message, the breaks go with it.
This tool fixes that by joining the lines back together, and the "join with" choice controls how. Join with a space is the default and the right choice most of the time: it turns five broken lines into one flowing paragraph, exactly how the sentence was written before it was printed. Join with nothing is for text that was split for no reason at all — a long web address, a code, or a serial number that wrapped across lines and must be whole again. Join with a comma turns a vertical list into a horizontal one: a column of names becomes "Anna, Ben, Carla, Dan", ready to paste into a sentence or a search box. The custom separator does the same with any characters you like, such as " | " or " ; ".
Three optional cleanups run alongside the join. Remove blank lines deletes empty lines, so a double-spaced paste collapses to single spacing. Trim each line strips the stray spaces that collect at the start and end of copied lines, which is what causes double spaces in the joined text. Collapse multiple spaces turns any run of two or more spaces into one, which cleans up text copied from tables and PDFs where columns were separated by wide gaps. All three are on by default; turn any off if you want to keep the original spacing.
The counts under the result tell you exactly what happened. Characters before and after show how much the text shrank — joining with a space removes one character per line break, joining with nothing removes the break entirely, and joining with a comma adds one character per line. Lines before and after show the shape of the change: a 40-line paste that becomes one line is a job well done, while a paste that stays at 40 lines means the breaks were paragraph breaks, not line breaks, and you may want a different tool. The blue bars in the panel beside the tool give the same before-and-after picture at a glance.
Everything runs in your browser: the text you paste never leaves your device, never goes to a server, and is never stored. That matters when the text is private — a draft, a client list, or a document you are not ready to share. When the result looks right, copy it with the Copy button or download it as a plain .txt file to use anywhere.
Worked example
A student copies a paragraph from a PDF textbook into an essay, and it arrives as six short lines with a hard break at the end of each one.
Step 1: Paste the copied paragraph into the Your text box — 6 lines, 129 characters.
Step 2: Leave Join lines with Space selected, with all three cleanup options on.
Step 3: Press Remove Line Breaks.
The tool joins the six lines into one flowing paragraph of 128 characters — five line breaks removed, one blank line dropped, and four spaces added where the lines joined — and the counts confirm it: lines before 6, lines after 1, characters before 129, characters after 128. The student copies the result and pastes it into the essay, where it now reads as a normal paragraph.
FAQ
How do I remove line breaks from copied text?
Paste the text into the box, choose how the lines should join — space, nothing, or comma — and press Remove Line Breaks. The cleaned text appears below with character and line counts showing what changed.
Which join option should I choose?
Use a space for normal paragraphs copied from PDFs or emails — it restores the sentence as written. Use nothing for codes, web addresses, or numbers split across lines. Use a comma to turn a vertical list into a horizontal one, like 'Anna, Ben, Carla'.
Does it remove blank lines too?
Yes, when the Remove blank lines option is on — and it is on by default. Empty lines are deleted entirely, so double-spaced pastes collapse to single spacing. Turn the option off if you want to keep blank lines as paragraph gaps.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device. The text you paste is never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
Can I download the cleaned text?
Yes. Press Download .txt to save the result as a plain text file, or use Copy Result to copy it straight to the clipboard.
