vCard QR Code Generator
This free vCard QR code generator turns your contact details into a QR code that saves you as a contact when scanned. Type in your name, phone, email, and website once, and anyone who points their phone camera at the code can add you to their contacts in seconds — no typing, no spelling out an email address, and no lost business cards. Print it on a card, add it to a resume, or put it on a shop counter.
How it works
A vCard is a plain-text format for contact details that phones have understood for decades. It starts with BEGIN:VCARD, lists one field per line, and ends with END:VCARD. Each line has a short label and a value: N holds the name in last-name-first order, FN holds the full display name, ORG the organization, TITLE the job title, TEL the phone number, EMAIL the email address, URL the website, ADR the street address, and NOTE a short note. A vCard QR code is simply that text encoded as a QR code. When a phone camera reads it, the phone recognizes the vCard format and offers to save it as a contact, with every field already filled in.
To use this generator, fill in as many fields as you want. Only the first and last name are required — every other field is optional, and empty fields are left out of the code entirely, so the QR code stays as simple as possible. The generator builds the vCard 3.0 text for you, escapes the special characters that vCard reserves (commas, semicolons, and newlines), and draws the QR code on the page. The vCard text is shown in the box below the code, so you can check exactly what a scanner will receive before you print anything.
Two settings control the code itself. Error correction decides how much of the code can be damaged, dirty, or covered up and still scan. Level L recovers about 7% of damage, M about 15%, Q about 25%, and H about 30%. Higher levels make the code denser, with more small squares, so M is the best balance for a clean business card, and H is the right choice for a code that will live on a shop counter or a poster where it may get scratched. The QR code size setting controls how large the code is drawn on screen and in the download, from small for screens to large for posters.
Before you print, test the code with your own phone: point the camera at it and check that it offers to save the right name and number. If it does, use Download PNG to save a clean image for printing. Print it at least two inches wide, dark on a light background, with a plain white border around it, so older phones can scan it comfortably. Your details never leave your device — the vCard and the QR code are built entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to a server or stored anywhere.
Worked example
A software engineer named Ada Lovelace wants a QR code for her business card, so people can save her contact details by scanning it.
Step 1: Type Ada in the first name field and Lovelace in the last name field.
Step 2: Add her organization Analytical Engines Ltd, job title Software Engineer, phone +1 312 555 0148, email ada@example.com, and website https://example.com.
Step 3: Leave error correction on M and press Generate QR Code.
The generator builds this vCard text:
VERSION:3.0
N:Lovelace;Ada;;;
FN:Ada Lovelace
ORG:Analytical Engines Ltd
TITLE:Software Engineer
TEL;TYPE=CELL:+1 312 555 0148
EMAIL:ada@example.com
URL:https://example.com
ADR:;;12 Main Street\, Chicago\, IL 60601;;;;
NOTE:Met at the tech meetup
END:VCARD
and draws the matching QR code. A colleague points their phone camera at it, taps the prompt, and Ada Lovelace is saved as a contact with the phone number, email, and website already filled in — no typing needed.
FAQ
What is a vCard QR code?
A vCard QR code is a QR code that holds contact details in the vCard format, the same format phones use for contacts. When someone scans it, their phone offers to save the name, phone number, email, and other details as a new contact, instead of showing a plain web link.
What details can I put in a vCard QR code?
This generator supports first and last name, organization, job title, phone number, email address, website, street address, and a short note. Fill in as many or as few as you like — only the name is required, and empty fields are left out of the code entirely.
Will the QR code work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both iPhone and Android cameras recognize vCard QR codes and offer to add the contact. On iPhone, point the camera at the code and tap the notification. On Android, the camera or the built-in QR scanner does the same. No app needs to be installed.
Which error correction level should I choose?
Error correction lets a QR code still scan when part of it is damaged or covered. Level L recovers about 7 percent of damage, M about 15 percent, Q about 25 percent, and H about 30 percent. Higher levels make the code denser, so M is the best balance for most printed cards, and H is best for codes that may get scratched or dirty.
Is my contact information uploaded anywhere?
No. The vCard text and the QR code are built entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, stored, or shared. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the generator will still work.
