How it works

Fantasy sports turn a player's real game into points. Every stat a player produces — yards, touchdowns, rebounds, home runs, goals — is worth a set number of points, and the points are added up at the end of the game. Some stats cost points too: turnovers, interceptions, and cards all subtract from the total. The calculator uses standard scoring for each sport, the set of values most leagues start from, and shows the points each stat contributed so you can check the math yourself.

NFL: pass yd 0.04 · pass TD 4 · rush/rec yd 0.1 · rush/rec TD 6 · INT −2 · fumble −2

In the NFL, quarterbacks earn 0.04 points per passing yard, which is 1 point per 25 yards, and 4 points per passing touchdown. Rushing and receiving yards are worth 0.1 points each — 1 point per 10 yards — and rushing or receiving touchdowns are worth 6. The two ways a player can lose points are interceptions thrown and fumbles lost, each costing 2 points. A quarterback who throws for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns has 12 points from yards plus 12 from touchdowns before anything is subtracted, which is why passing volume matters so much in fantasy football.

NBA scoring rewards all-around play. Every point scored is worth 1 fantasy point, rebounds are worth 1.2, assists are worth 1.5, steals and blocks are worth 3 each, and turnovers cost 1 point. The higher values for steals and blocks reflect how rare they are — a player who records 2 steals and a block adds 9 points, the same as scoring 9 more points. Because assists are worth more than rebounds, a point guard who dishes 10 assists picks up 15 points from passing alone.

MLB scoring is built around hits and power. A single is worth 3 points, a double 5, a triple 8, and a home run 10, while RBIs and runs scored are worth 2 each, walks are worth 2, and a stolen base is worth 5. A batter who strikes out loses 1 point. The gap between a single and a home run is deliberate: extra-base hits are rarer and drive in more runs, so they pay more. A 2-for-4 night with a home run and 3 RBIs is worth 6 points for the singles' worth of hits plus 10 for the homer plus 6 for the RBIs, before runs and walks are counted.

Soccer scoring depends on position, because a goal means something different for a striker than for a defender. A goal is worth 10 points for a forward and 6 for a midfielder or defender, since defenders score far less often. Assists are worth 6 points for everyone, a clean sheet — conceding no goals — is worth 4, and each goal conceded costs 1 point. Discipline matters too: a yellow card costs 1 point and a red card costs 3. Use the position dropdown so a defender's goal is scored at the right value.

Two things can make your league's total different from this calculator. First, many leagues adjust individual values — PPR leagues give 1 point per reception, some give 6 points per passing touchdown instead of 4, and soccer leagues often add points for saves or shots on target. Second, some leagues add bonuses, like extra points for a 100-yard rushing game or a hat-trick. If your total does not match your league app, compare the per-stat breakdown the calculator shows against your league's scoring page and the difference will usually jump out.

Worked example

A quarterback throws for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns, rushes for 50 yards and 1 touchdown, and throws 1 interception. How many fantasy points did he score?

Step 1: Passing yards — 300 × 0.04 = 12.00 points.
Step 2: Passing touchdowns — 3 × 4 = 12 points.
Step 3: Rushing yards — 50 × 0.1 = 5 points.
Step 4: Rushing touchdown — 1 × 6 = 6 points.
Step 5: Interception — 1 × (−2) = −2 points.
Step 6: Add it all up — 12 + 12 + 5 + 6 − 2 = 33.00 points.

Enter those same numbers with NFL selected and the calculator gives exactly 33.00 fantasy points, with the same breakdown. Try the other sports with their default numbers: the NBA example gives 55.00 points, the MLB example gives 28.00 points, and a forward with 2 goals, 1 assist, a clean sheet, and 1 yellow card gives 29.00 points.

FAQ

How are fantasy football points calculated?

In standard scoring, a quarterback earns 0.04 points per passing yard and 4 points per passing touchdown, running backs and receivers earn 0.1 points per rushing or receiving yard and 6 points per touchdown, and interceptions and lost fumbles each cost 2 points. Add up every stat times its value and you get the player's fantasy total for the game.

How many fantasy points is a passing yard worth?

In standard scoring, one passing yard is worth 0.04 fantasy points, which works out to 1 point per 25 passing yards. Rushing and receiving yards are worth more per yard at 0.1 points each, or 1 point per 10 yards. Some leagues use 6 points per passing touchdown instead of 4, so check your league settings.

How are fantasy basketball points calculated?

Standard fantasy basketball scoring gives 1 point per point scored, 1.2 per rebound, 1.5 per assist, 3 per steal, 3 per block, and minus 1 per turnover. A player with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists scores 25 plus 12 plus 12, or 49 points before steals, blocks, and turnovers.

Why does my league give a different total than this calculator?

Every league sets its own scoring rules. This calculator uses standard scoring, but your league might use PPR for receivers, 6 points per passing touchdown, bonus points for 100-yard games, or different values for soccer goals and clean sheets. The per-stat breakdown shows each value used, so you can spot where your league differs.

How many points is a goal worth in fantasy soccer?

In standard scoring, a goal is worth 10 points for a forward and 6 points for a midfielder or defender, because goals are rarer for defenders. Assists are worth 6 points, a clean sheet is worth 4, each goal conceded costs 1 point, a yellow card costs 1, and a red card costs 3.
