How it works

The euro (EUR) is the currency used in 20 European Union countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Ireland. The US dollar (USD) is the currency of the United States. When you travel from the US to Paris, order something from a shop in Berlin, or send money to family in Portugal, you need to know what your euros are worth in dollars — or the other way around.

This converter uses one simple idea: an exchange rate. The rate tells you how many US dollars one euro buys. If the rate is 1.09, then every euro is worth $1.09. The rate moves up and down every day as markets react to interest rates, inflation, and economic news, so the same 100 euros can be worth a slightly different dollar amount from one week to the next.

To convert euros to dollars, multiply the euro amount by the rate. To convert dollars to euros, divide the dollar amount by the same rate. That is the whole calculation — there is no hidden fee or extra step inside this tool. Real banks and transfer services do add their own markup and fees on top, which is why the amount that lands in your account is usually a little lower than the mid-market figure you see here.

Euros to dollars: USD = EUR × rate  |  Dollars to euros: EUR = USD ÷ rate

Enter the amount in the first box and the rate in the second. The default rate is 1.09 USD per euro, a typical example rate for illustration. If your bank quotes 1.08 or 1.12, type that number in instead and the result updates instantly. Use the swap button to change direction without retyping the amount.

Common uses include planning a vacation budget, pricing an item listed in euros on a European website, checking what a hotel in Rome really costs in dollars, and estimating how much a wire transfer to Europe will deliver. For larger amounts, even a small change in the rate matters: on 10,000 euros, a move from 1.09 to 1.10 is worth $100.

Worked example

Sarah from Chicago is booking a hotel in Barcelona. The hotel charges 100 euros per night, and she wants to know the price in dollars before she books. The rate she sees that morning is 1.09 US dollars per euro.

Step 1: Write down the amount in euros — 100 EUR.
Step 2: Write down the rate — 1.09 USD per EUR.
Step 3: Multiply: 100 × 1.09 = 109.
Step 4: Read the result in dollars — $109.00 per night.

For a five-night stay, the total is 5 × $109.00 = $545.00. That is the figure this converter gives for 100 euros at a rate of 1.09, and it is the number Sarah can use to compare the Barcelona hotel with a similar hotel in the US. If her card adds a 3 percent foreign transaction fee, she should budget about $16 more per night on top of that.

FAQ

How much is 100 euros in US dollars?

It depends on the exchange rate. At 1.09 US dollars per euro, 100 euros equals $109.00. Multiply the euro amount by the current rate to get the dollar amount.

Is the exchange rate in this converter live?

No. The rate shown is an editable example rate of 1.09 USD per euro, for illustration only. Exchange rates change constantly, so check your bank or card provider for the live rate before you send money or travel.

How do I convert USD back to EUR?

Use the swap button to switch direction, or divide the dollar amount by the exchange rate. For example, $109.00 divided by 1.09 equals 100 euros.

Why does my bank give me a different amount?

Banks and money transfer services add a markup to the mid-market rate and may charge a fee. The amount you receive is usually a little less than the mid-market calculation, so compare the total cost, not just the rate.
